Asus Eee PC

When I have free time and want to spend it on a pc, most of the time I’m just wunking (web junking).  I don’t really need tons of system power for that, just lots of memory.  With internet-enabled, high-end cell phones priced at ~$300 and low-end laptops at $500, it makes sense to have a wunking pc product priced at ~$300.  Netbooks are that product and Asus’ Eee PC’s are some of the most popular netbooks available now:  http://www.forbes.com/technology/global/2008/1208/072.html?feed=rss_technology

I got my daughter a “pink” Eee for her birthday this summer.  She’s 7 and loves the web!  Additionally, the version we bought had Skpe pre-installed.  It’s easy for us to stay in touch.  It was hard to justify paying $300 for a smartphone for myself when a mini-pc just her size was available at the same price.

As people’s home get more and more connected, I think folks will be buying several of these netbook|net appliances for several different rooms in their homes.  They’re kinda stylish (if that matters to you) and they’re obviously functional.  Style & function + priced affordably.  Tough to beat.
